Panama City Man Arrested for Defrauding Elderly Victim

PANAMA CITY, FL - Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford announced the arrest of 29-year-old MDZohair Anjum, who was charged with defrauding a 73-year-old Panama City woman out of $30,000. Anjum deceived the victim by posing as a computer security software company representative, claiming she had been overpaid and needed to return the excess amount. The victim withdrew the cash and gave it to Anjum's associate at a local store.
Bay County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) investigators quickly identified and apprehended Anjum, recovering all the stolen money within hours. In addition to the theft charge, Anjum faces a felony drug possession charge after being found with controlled substances. He will appear before a Bay County Judge today.
Sheriff Ford reminds residents to be cautious of internet scams and to report suspicious activities to law enforcement immediately.
