Summary:
This is professional firefighting duties of a varied nature under the direction of superior officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
Responds to fire alarms and performs firefighting duties as assigned.
Operates varied pieces of fire apparatus and equipment to extinguish fires.
Ventilates burning buildings to eject smoke and gases.
Performs salvage and cleanup operations at fire scenes.
Rescues and removes persons from danger.
Administers first aid to sick, injured or afflicted persons.
Makes periodic inspections of buildings to locate fire hazards.
Attends training sessions in such subjects as firefighting methods, equipment operation, and first aid.
Performs cleaning and maintenance tasks on department buildings, equipment and grounds.
Operates the department communications center.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
To perform this job satisfactorily, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of the street system, geography and types of construction in the city.
Knowledge of the various types of fire hazards in the City.
Knowledge and skill in the use of first aid practices.
Ability to learn and perform many and varied firefighting techniques and procedures.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
Ability to work at heights.
Ability to drive fire apparatus over the road safely under emergency conditions.
Skill in the use and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
Ability to define problems, exercise sound judgment, to promote harmony, and to cooperate with other members of the department.
Ability to compose effective and accurate correspondence and to deal with non-routine matters independently.
Ability to pass an annual physical fitness assessment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or a GED.
Completion of fire minimum standards for Firefighter II as required by the State of Florida or be actively enrolled in a Florida Firefighter II program.
Must possess a valid Class E Florida Driver’s License.
Must be able to attain a Florida EMT license within 2nd year of hire.

The physical demands described below represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to focus.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described below represent those employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
