Evening with Congressman Matt Gaetz postponed

October 01, 2023

PANAMA CITY BEACH - The October 3rd dinner with Rep. Matt Gaetz at Todd Herendeen Theatre has been postponed.

"I have been closely following the recent votes on budget issues in Washington, and in frequent contact with our liaison to Gaetz's team about his availability for this Tuesday. Until this weekend, all indications were that he was going to be able to be here as scheduled. Late yesterday afternoon, Gaetz's scheduler confirmed that he will be required to stay in DC on Tuesday." - Tho Bishop, Chairman Bay County GOP

A new date will be set in the near future and ticket holders have been contacted.

Congress was set to be out of session this week, but they failed to pass a budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. A continuing resolution was passed by the House and then in the Senate on Sept 30th which kept the federal government funded at current spending levels until Nov. 17 and includes $16 billion in disaster relief.
Conservatives like Rep. Matt Gaetz called for additional reductions in government spending and money to stop the southern border invasion. Now Rep. Gaetz is calling for the removal of Rep. McCarthy as Speaker of the House.

The House passed a "clean" stop gap which did not include funding for Ukraine and did not include funding for the southern border.

Ten Florida Representatives voted against the bill, holding out to reduced government spending and fund the southern border.
