So October is here and thus the belief in all things magical and odd abounds. Ghosts out haunting. Fairies dancing in the full moon. Graveyards making weird sounds.

So obviously, my imagination went wild when I saw this amazing circle of mushrooms in my front yard.

The story goes ... In preparation for the full moon the fairies are gathering their homes together for a big celebration. Like the western circling of the wagons, they are circling to keep their magic in and other things, spirits and trolls out. A party is coming and we need to stay up late to see the fairy lights.

Or, there is a more mundane and logical explanation for this ... bummer.

“The body of the fungus (called the mycelium) lives underground, and it grows outward in a circle in search of more and more nutrients. The mushrooms spring up from the edge of the mycelium, especially in wet weather, and therefore form a ring.” Thank you Stem Education at Notre Dame for bursting my bubble with science and logic. https://stemeducation.nd.edu/resources/scientific-phenomena/september-2016#:~:text=The%20body%20of%20the%20fungus,and%20therefore%20form%20a%20ring
