Local Sea Cadet Unit Gives Back to the Community

PANAMA CITY, FL - On January 20, 2024 the Sea Wolf Division got a blast email looking for volunteers to help serve food at the warming shelter for the vulnerable citizens of Bay County. This last weekend of January (along with their drill meeting and getting ready for their inspection on February 5) they took the time from 4:00pm till 7:30pm to prepare and serve the food at the A.D. Harris Learning center. Many of the cadets and parents volunteered in the effort. For dinner that night they had spaghetti and the following morning they planned on dropping off pulled-pork sandwiches for lunch.

A statement from Donna Pilson, Executive Director for Rebuild Bay County. "We are so grateful for such a giving community. This year we offered two warming center locations, one on the beachside and in town. Between the two, we averaged 65 guests nightly from Tuesday through Saturday. Several organizations, along with Bay County Emergency Management, led the effort, however, we absolutely could not have done it without the support of the community. Many individuals volunteered their time and talents to ensure the centers were successful. We are especially thankful for the Sea Cadets, who planned, prepared, and served dinner one evening. The way these young people cared for some of our most vulnerable citizens was well received. They were respectful, courteous and efficient. We are forever grateful and look forward to continuing to partner with them in serving the needs of our community".
