Bay County NAACP Hosts Inspirational Martin Luther King Commemorative Breakfast
PANAMA CITY, FL - On January 13th, a powerful sense of unity and reflection filled the air as community members gathered at the Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church for the Martin Luther King Commemorative Breakfast. Hosted by the Bay County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the event aimed to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and inspire positive change within the community.
The event was presided over by Rev. Dr. Rufus L Wood Jr, the President of the Bay County NAACP. He set the tone for a morning of reflection, inspiration, and commitment to Dr. King's principles.
The breakfast commenced at 9 am with inspiring songs of the movement beautifully sung by Ms. Arletha Perry. Panama City Commissioner Joshua Street gave a greeting from the city. Inspiring recordings of Martin Luther King Jr. were played. The name of the winners of the MLK Coloring contest and achievement awards were announced.
A solo by Mr. David Cruel, liturgical dance by Miss Jordan Harper and poem read by Ms. Sandra Pierce lifted the hearts of all present. The Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church provided a delicious and hardy breakfast buffet.
The guest speaker had a compelling theme, "Shifting the Cultural Climate Through the Study and Practice of Kingian Nonviolence." Dr. Fredrick Woods, a distinguished speaker and advocate for Dr. King’s principles, eloquently delivered a thought-provoking address, encouraging attendees to embrace Kingian Nonviolence as a means to bring about positive cultural transformation.
A distinguished group of local pastors and community leaders attended the event. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort needed to advance Dr. King's dream of a more harmonious society.
The Martin Luther King Commemorative Breakfast served as a poignant reminder of the ongoing work required to uphold the values of equality and justice championed by Dr. King. Attendees left the event inspired and motivated to actively contribute to the betterment of their community, reflecting the spirit of Dr. King's enduring legacy.
