WHY IS GOD SILENT SOMETIMES?

by Henry Hazard, Pastor Emeritus

Every person goes through times of suffering, some of which are severe and prolonged.  Even the most dedicated and committed Christian is not immune. Prayers don’t seem to be answered.  Then someone will ask, “Why is God silent when my need is so great?”

Mary and Martha had a brother, Lazarus, who was so sick that they feared that he would die.  They knew that if Jesus came, He would heal Lazarus.  They sent for Him and after He received their urgent request, Jesus delayed for four days.  In that time Lazarus died.  When Jesus arrived at Bethany, Mary and Martha, in terrible grief, complained, “If you had been here, my brother would not have died!” To them Jesus was silent in their most desperate need!”

Jesus responded, “I am the Resurrection and the Life.  He who believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”  They knew that Jesus could heal.  But they didn’t know that He could raise the dead.  Jesus wanted them to know Him better.  He wanted their faith in Him to grow.  So, He was silent until the right time.

Are you going through some serious situation?  Does God seem to be silent?  Keep going.  He knows how to bring you through it -- and He will do it in the right time.
