Bay High School ICE Protest and Fake News

by Rex Reid

There is one thing you can count on with certainty, and that is the “news” media’s appetite for controversy over truth. Nothing illustrates that more than the supposed Bay High School ICE protest.

Read the coverage of the event, and it would lead you to believe that it was a sanctioned event by the school system, but nothing could be further from the truth. And it only took me ten minutes to email the district and get the following reply.

The school system "followed the Florida Commissioner of Education's guidelines, and there were ZERO disturbances, walk-outs, or protests at our schools, especially on school time." Crystal Bullock, Communication Director for the Bay School District, tells the Bay County Coastal.

The event was held after school and was organized by an outside group, but coverage made it seem like there was a massive walkout. When in reality there were about fifteen people, and most of them were not even students.

Publishers Point: The BCC will not always be the first to a story, but we strive to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

That is our pledge to the community!!!
