Teens Arrested For Attempted Murder And Robbery With A Firearm In Callaway

by Bay County Sheriff’s Office

CALLAWAY, FL - Bay County Sheriff, Tommy Ford, announced the arrest of three suspects in a shooting in Callaway on December 17 at 6:34 pm.
December 17, BCSO deputies responded to a report of gunshots on William Way. Residents on the street reported hearing gunshots and a video captured on a home camera revealed a white SUV speeding away from the cul-de-sac on William Way. No gunshots could be heard on the video.
The BCSO returned to William Way at a second report of gunshots by residents. This time, the 911 caller reported a suspect had fired two shots into a white SUV and then fled into the backyard of one of the homes. Once back on William Way, the deputy observed a white Nissan Rogue parked in front of a home on William Way. The deputy made contact with the driver and instructed him to wait in the vehicle on the road. The deputy searched the backyard looking for the fleeing suspect but did not find him.
BCSO Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene were contacted to respond to the scene. Two shell casings were located on the street.
Contact was made with the passenger in the Nissan Rogue who stated he was selling watches and had arranged to meet someone on William Way that was going to buy the watches. Waiting for the buyer to show up, the passenger in the vehicle began looking at his phone. He was startled when a man knocked on the passenger window with what appeared to be a firearm. The driver floored the vehicle and sped off.  At that time, the suspect fired two shots into the back of the Nissan Rogue.
Using investigative techniques, investigators identified the three suspects involved in the shooting. Brianna Leigh Brooks, aged 18, is believed to have driven the two other suspects to the victim’s neighborhood. It is also believed she knew they intended to rob the victim of the watches and that one of the suspects carried a firearm. Brooks dropped Wyatt Leo Havens, aged 17, and Xavier Anthony Quinn, aged 16, off on William Way and drove back home. When Quinn called her after the shooting and stated the robbery went wrong and he shot at the car, Brooks refused to return and pick them up. They shortly arrived at her home after taking an Uber.
Investigators believe Havens and Quinn were communicating with the victim over Instagram to purchase watches he was selling but intended to rob the victim. They attempted the robbery and when the victims sped away, shot at the vehicle.
Brianna Leigh Brooks was arrested and charged with Principal to Attempted Murder with a Firearm (two counts) and Principal to Attempted Robbery with a Firearm. Wyatt Leo Havens and Xavier Anthony Quinn were charged with Attempted Felony Murder with Discharge of a Firearm (two counts), Attempted Robbery with Firearm, and Shooting into an Occupied Conveyance. All three have been taken to the Bay County Jail.
Sheriff Tommy Ford would like to thank the US Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Panama City Police Department, and Probation and Parole for their assistance in this case.
