Push to Revive Parker Pirates Football Gains Momentum
PARKER, FL - Does anyone remember the Parker Pirates football team? We hope to bring Parker Pirates football back to Parker by renaming the 4 Springfield Panthers teams and moving them home to Parker's planned Sports Complex, with VFW Post 8205 proudly displayed on their jerseys. Before Hurricane Michael, the teams practiced at the Parker ball field. A concession stand, office and equipment building were completed and they were all set to become the Parker Pirates when the buildings were destroyed by the storm. Not to be defeated, the teams moved to Springfield. Now they want to come home.
These children need your help! Football is still America's favorite game. Many Parker students dream to one day be a famous football player.
Final planning for the Parker Sports Complex is now in progress. There are 2 special meetings open to the public, scheduled for 5:30 pm on January 11th and at 5:30 pm on February 8th, at Parker Community Center. Please bring someone and voice your support for outfitting the sports field properly for football games with goal posts, stands, field lights, an electronic scoreboard, a concession stand, an office, an equipment building, restrooms and a gated fence to allow teams to control access to the children. They need your support.
Last but not least, in the event of another weather emergency, a football field with goal posts and lights up and down the field is a perfect landing area for emergency helicopters to quickly come in and evacuate people to safety.
