Lullwater Drive Closure for Storm Drain Installation

by Janet Pattison

Lullwater Drive at Front Beach Road was temporarily closed from 7 a.m. on Monday, December 11, until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12. The closure encompassed the Lullwater Drive right of way, extending approximately 100 feet just north of Front Beach Road.

The purpose of this closure was the installation of a new 42-inch storm drain across Lullwater Drive. Due to the extensive existing utilities, including city water, sewer, reclaimed water, telephone, and gas lines within the Lullwater Drive right of way, the contractor couldn't use a trench shield. This necessitated a larger excavation area for the safe installation of the new storm drain. Additionally, supports had to be placed for the existing utilities across the roadway, prompting the closure to ensure public safety.

Despite the closure on Lullwater Drive, Front Beach Road remained open to traffic throughout the project. All adjacent local roadways, such as Lisbon Avenue, Junipero Avenue, Carmen Street, and El Centro Boulevard, continued to accommodate traffic flow.

Local traffic was permitted between Lisbon Avenue and the work area, with access available via Lullwater Drive from the north. This arrangement ensured ongoing accessibility for residents and businesses in the vicinity.

The closure was an essential measure to facilitate crucial infrastructure work, enhancing the storm drainage system in the area. By addressing these infrastructure needs, the community aimed to bolster its resilience against adverse weather conditions, ultimately prioritizing the safety and well-being of local residents and businesses.

Efforts were made to minimize inconvenience to the public while advancing this critical infrastructure project. Residents, commuters, and businesses were encouraged to use alternative routes and adhere to designated traffic management measures during the closure.

Throughout the duration of the temporary interruption, authorities remained committed to upholding safety standards and making necessary improvements to fortify the area's infrastructure for the benefit of the entire community.
