VFW Post 8205 Auxiliary “Santa For Sims” Poker Run Raises $8,558 For Veterans’ Home
PANAMA CITY, FL - The VFW Post 8205 Auxiliary hosted its sixth annual “Santa for Sims” Poker Run on Saturday, September 20, 2025 - the third Saturday in September, as tradition holds - at VFW Post 8205. The event brought together veterans, motorcycle riders, and community members for a day of fellowship, food, and fundraising to support the Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home in Panama City.
Now in its sixth year, the Santa for Sims Poker Run has become a beloved community tradition dedicated to honoring and supporting the 120 residents of the Sims Veterans Nursing Home. This year’s event raised an impressive $8,558, every dollar of which will directly benefit the residents. In a true act of generosity, all Poker Run prize winners donated their winnings back to the cause.
The day included 50/50 drawings, raffles, breakfast, lunch, and a silent auction, all hosted by Auxiliary members and volunteers at VFW Post 8205. Contributions and participation from other veteran organizations and local supporters helped make this one of the most successful Santa for Sims events to date.
Funds raised from the event are used to purchase Christmas gifts for each resident of the nursing home. On Christmas morning at 8:00 a.m., VFW Auxiliary members, VFW members, and VFW Riders as well as friends, family and volunteers throughout the community come together to personally deliver the gifts — a touching display of gratitude and unity that has continued for six years and counting.
The VFW Post 8205 Auxiliary is currently accepting monetary donations only to help brighten the holidays for our veterans. Contributions can be dropped off at VFW Post 8205, 735 South Highway 22A, Parker, Florida 32404.
Mark your calendars: The next Santa for Sims Poker Run will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 - once again riding for those who served.
