BAY COUNTY, FL – The fastest growing veteran population is women. In the year 2000, women made accounted for 4% of the veteran population and by 2040, it is projected that number will rise to 18%.

However, only 44% of women veterans are enrolled in VA health care so they do not have access to the VA health care system or the low- or no-cost care it offers.

Women serve across all military branches and divisions with the anticipated number of women veterans in 2025 expected to be over 2.1 million. That would mean that over 1 million women are not using the health benefits that they earned.

If you are a transitioning service women or recently separated women veteran, check out the VA Women’s Health Reengagement Training (heaRT) Participant Handbook. Learn about the VA benefits and services available to support your health and well-being.

It is never too late to enroll in VA health care services.

If you know a woman veteran, please share the information. Remember the old adage, “Prevention is worth a pound a cure.”

Please take care of yourself. If you don’t do it, who will?
