Deputy Sheriff Gabriel Medina Arrested For Sexual Battery

Bay County Sheriff, Tommy Ford, announced today the arrest of Gabriel Medina, age 35, on a charge of Sexual Battery. Medina was a deputy at the BCSO for five years.
On Sunday, October 5th, a woman called the BCSO to file a complaint against a deputy she stated came to her home at about 2:50 am Sunday morning in uniform. The victim stated the deputy entered her residence and intimidated her by his position of authority into engaging in sexual activity with him. She stated he wore his uniform and firearm during their encounter. She had met him previously when he responded to her residence on other calls.
BCSO Criminal Investigations began looking into the complaint and were able to determine that the deputy, identified as Gabriel Medina, was indeed at her residence Sunday morning from 2:50am to 3:03am. There was no bodycam footage because he deactivated his camera and failed to notify dispatch of his location.
When interviewed, there were inconsistencies in Medina’s account of the incident. He finally admitted to a sexual encounter with the victim.
Medina was arrested October 6th for Sexual Battery by a Person in a Position of Authority and was booked into the Bay County Jail. Medina will be terminated from his position.
“We will continue to uphold the high standards expected of us and maintain the trust of the people we serve,” Sheriff Tommy Ford said. “One person’s actions do not define who we are or the incredible work being done by 99% of the men and woman of the agency.”
