Answer: Dear Self-sufficient:
First of all, I never find any question to be “stupid.” However, your quandary is shared by many. Your feelings may stem from childhood, when asking for help was seen as a sign of weakness. Or, you don’t like to inconvenience others. When so many in our nation were isolated for an extended period, it seemed we were in a “survival of the fittest” era. Now, could your feelings be prideful at feeling weak? If you can do it yourself … do. But if you’re putting yourself at risk, swallow your pride; ask for help. Building a good support system around you would also be helpful.
Proverbs 16:18 tells us: "Pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall."
