Opinion: McCoys4Justice Advocates For The Release Of Davonte McCoy

by Cherrelle Gilmore, Fiancé and Advocate / McCoys4Justice

I am reaching out on behalf of McCoys4Justice about Devonte McCoy, who is incarcerated in Bay County, FL, despite serious violations of his constitutional rights.
McCoy filed motions to compel store surveillance video and police body camera footage that would prove his innocence. The State claimed this evidence did not exist — yet the store manager confirmed it was available to officials. Because the court denied his motions, this evidence was lost and destroyed, leaving Devonte without the ability to properly defend himself.
This is textbook spoliation of evidence and a denial of due process. Despite these violations, Judge Brantley S. Clark Jr. continues to preside over his case.
We are calling on the public to:

  • Write to the Bay County Clerk of Court demanding accountability.
  • Support Devonte through bond and commissary contributions.
  • Share his story online with #FreeDevonteMcCoy #StopSpoliation.
This case raises urgent questions about fairness, accountability, and the duty of courts to preserve evidence.
