Announcing Hiring Of Javien Elliott As Manager Of New MLK Recreation Campus
PANAMA CITY, FL – The City of Panama City is proud to announce the hiring of Javien Elliott, Panama City native and former Florida State University and professional football player, as the Manager of the Martin Luther King (MLK) Recreation Campus. The highly anticipated community campus is scheduled to open this fall and will serve residents of all ages throughout the area.
Born and raised in Panama City, Javien Elliott’s journey from local athlete with Rutherford High School to the national stage has inspired many. After college, Elliott went on to a successful career in the National Football League (NFL), playing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers, and the Canadian Football League (CFL). Now, in his hometown, Elliott has a new mission: to provide a safe place to develop, educate and uplift the very community that shaped him.
“Coming back home to serve Panama City in this way is a dream come true,” said Elliott. “This community is very important to me, and now I have the opportunity to give back and help shape future generations: kids, teens, adults and seniors alike. This facility is about developing people of all ages with programs for sports, cooking, education, art, music and exercise. Recreation is more than just sports or facilities; it’s about connection, growth and opportunity.”
Elliott, a proud husband and soon-to-be father, is especially excited to raise his own son here in Panama City. He sees this role not only as a professional milestone, but as a personal one, helping to build a future for his family and countless others.
The new MLK Recreation Campus is set to become a hub for the Panama City community, offering everything from sports and arts to education, health and personal development programs. With Elliott leading the way, with support from the Parks, Culture and Recreation Team and the community, the City is confident the center will grow into a lively, welcoming space for everyone.
“We knew this was a big role to fill, one that requires not just experience, but heart,” said City Manager Jonathan Hayes. “Javien brings both. His deep ties to Panama City, his leadership qualities, and his passion for investing in people make him the ideal person to lead the new MLK Recreation Campus into the future.”
Elliott’s vision includes programs that speak to all ages and areas of the City. From youth sports leagues and mentorship initiatives to adult wellness classes and multi-generational programming, Elliott aims to foster a space where everyone can thrive, learn and develop new skills.
The City of Panama City invites the public to join in celebrating the opening of the MLK Recreation Campus this fall, where Javien Elliott will be officially introduced in his new role. He is commencing his work with the City today and is looking forward to the opening with excitement. Welcome, Javien, to the City of Panama City Team!
