Candidate's Statement - Robbie Hughes - Candidate for Panama City Commissioner, Ward 1

I was blessed to grow up in the welcoming neighborhood of the Cove in Panama City, where I experienced firsthand the warmth of a close-knit community. My childhood was filled with simple yet meaningful joys—playing baseball at Sudduth Park, riding my bike through the alleys, and spending afternoons making memories with friends. Those early years instilled in me a deep appreciation for the beauty of the bay and a love for the people who call this area home, a love that continues to guide me today.
I was fortunate to receive my education in our local public schools, starting at Cherry Street, then Rosenwald, and later graduating from Bay High. My journey of learning continued at the University of Alabama, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and English. More importantly, it was during this time that I discovered my passion for real estate—a field that allowed me to combine my love for people with the opportunity to serve them in a meaningful way.
Since becoming a licensed Realtor in 1993, I have dedicated myself to helping others navigate one of the most significant decisions in their lives—finding a home. Through years of experience in negotiation, budgeting, and problem-solving, I have always strived to bring honesty, care, and dedication to those I serve. Beyond my professional work, I have been privileged to collaborate with teams and individuals who share a commitment to making a difference.
The values that guide me today were shaped by my parents, longtime residents of Ward 1. My mother, Judy, devoted her career to education, positively impacting countless students in both public and private schools. My father, Bob, a real estate attorney, has always led by example, using his expertise to help others find solutions. Their dedication to service and integrity has been a constant source of inspiration.
Family is at the heart of everything I do. My sister, a professor at the University of Georgia, has made meaningful contributions to her field, and I deeply admire her dedication. Above all, I am most proud of my three children—Savannah, who serves as a lead grant writer for the Boys and Girls Club of America in Atlanta and is engaged to Sahil, a kind and driven young man; Brady, a talented musician pursuing his dreams; and Dawson, whose creativity and kindness inspire me every day. Watching them grow into remarkable individuals has been the greatest blessing of my life.
I am also profoundly grateful for my partner, Meg, whose kindness, generosity, and servant-hearted nature bring balance and joy into my life. Her unwavering support (and incredible baking) make every day brighter.
Serving my community has always been a priority. For over two decades, I have been honored to contribute through roles on the Code Enforcement Board and Planning Board for Panama City, and I currently serve on the Bay County Planning Board. As Chair of the Bay Education Foundation and through involvement in various local organizations, I remain committed to giving back in every way I can.
From my childhood in the Cove to my career in real estate, my journey has been one of gratitude, hard work, and service. I am deeply thankful for the opportunities I’ve had, the people who have shaped my path, and the chance to continue working for the betterment of the community I love.
