Candidate's Statement - Daniel Schultz - Panama City Commissioner, Ward 1

My name is Daniel Schultz,
As a lifelong resident of Panama City, I am proud to call Ward 1 home. Growing up in a single-mother household, I learned the values of hard work, resilience, and community at an early age. After graduating from Bay High School as a second-generation alumnus, I earned my associate degree from Gulf Coast State College and later my bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Florida State University, all on a full-ride Bright Futures scholarship. Now, I’m eager to give back to the community that has shaped me by representing the voices of Ward 1 as your City Commissioner.
My journey to civic engagement began as a community advocate, where I successfully opposed the downtown Panama City paid parking ordinance. By collaborating with local businesses, patrons, and neighbors, I demonstrated that our city’s strength lies in listening to its people and acting in their best interest. This experience solidified my belief that local government should work for the people, not against them.
If elected, I will prioritize addressing our infrastructure needs by ensuring the efficient use of tax dollars and exploring untapped federal grant opportunities. I will also work to continue removing the Fire Assessment Tax to ease the financial burden on our residents. I am committed to making local government listen to the people of Ward 1 and ensuring that I remain accessible and easy to reach for any concerns or ideas residents want to share.
At 21 years old, I know my age might raise questions for some. But I invite you to look at what I’ve already accomplished as a private citizen. From standing up for local businesses to ensuring that community voices are heard, I have shown my dedication to making a difference. Imagine what I could achieve as your City Commissioner, working every day to improve our neighborhoods and address the concerns of Ward 1.
In addition to my professional and academic experience, I am a musician and member of the First United Methodist Church in Panama City, where I’ve witnessed the power of community firsthand. Whether through advocacy, public service, or simply listening to a neighbor’s concern, I am dedicated to serving with integrity and purpose.
Together, we can build a Panama City that works for everyone. I humbly ask for your vote on April 22, 2025, so we can make that vision a reality.
