Woman Who Sold Victim Fentanyl Arrested for Manslaughter

BAY COUNTY, FL - On September 11, 2023, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Springfield Police Department in reference to a death investigation they were conducting. During their investigation, Springfield investigators determined the death was the likely result of a drug overdose with drugs purchased in Callaway. After consulting with the 14th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, the decision was made to turn the investigation over to BCSO investigators since Callaway is under BCSO jurisdiction.
BCSO investigators interviewed eyewitnesses to the transaction and located video evidence confirming the witness's statement. The investigation identified Amber Rae Grant, age 38, of Springfield, as the person who sold the drugs to the victim. With the assistance of the BCSO Special Investigations Division, a search warrant was executed on Grant’s Taylor Road home. During the search warrant, Grant was found to be in possession of additional Fentanyl.
Once toxicology results returned on the victim and confirmed the death to be the result of an overdose of Fentanyl, a warrant was issued for Grant charging her with one count of Manslaughter for causing a human death due to her distribution of a controlled substance. The amount of fentanyl found in the victim was more than 40 times the amount needed to cause death.
On November 26, 2024, Grant was located and taken into custody on the outstanding warrant. Grant is currently being held at the Bay County Jail on a $100,000.00 bond.
Sheriff Ford would like to thank the agencies who assisted in this investigation, including the Springfield Police Department, the 14th Judicial Circuit Medical Examiner’s Office, the 2nd Judicial Circuit Medical Examiner’s Office, and the 14th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.
