Florida Election Results: Amendments Breakdown

by Janet Pattison

The results are in for the six proposed amendments on Florida’s ballot, and here’s what passed — and what didn’t — in this hotly contested election. https://floridaelectionwatch.gov/Amendments
-   Amendment 1  :  Partisan School Board Elections
This amendment, which sought to make school board elections partisan again, failed. With 54.83% voting against it, the proposal did not reach the 60% threshold needed to pass. While voters can still find out a candidate's party affiliation, it will not appear on the ballot.
-   Amendment 2  :  Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish
This amendment passed with 67.26% of voters in favor, making hunting and fishing a constitutionally protected right in Florida. However, it does not repeal any existing laws regulating these activities.
-   Amendment 3  :  Legalizing Adult Personal Use of Marijuana
This amendment did not pass. While 55.71% voted yes, it fell short of the 60% required for approval. Therefore, the status quo remains for medical marijuana in the state, with no changes to marijuana legalization.
-   Amendment 4  :  Limiting Government Interference with Abortion
Close but not quite, this amendment received 57.05% in favor but still failed to meet the 60% threshold. Florida will continue to uphold the heartbeat bill and legal safeguards related to abortion.
-   Amendment 5  :  Annual Adjustments to Homestead Exemptions
This amendment passed with 66.01% of the vote, allowing for annual inflation adjustments to Florida’s homestead exemptions.
-   Amendment 6  :  Public Funding in State Elections
This amendment, which aimed to stop taxpayer money from funding state elections, failed with only  50.33% of voters opposing it.
